About Yoobee College of Creative Innovation, Auckland
Yoobee College of Creative Innovation has its contemporary identity rooted in a major reformation in May 2019, when the creative legacies of South Seas Film & Television School, Animation College, Yoobee School of Design, AMES Institute of IT, and Design & Arts (Canterbury) merged under one unified umbrella. Yet the Institution’s constituent parts bring more than 30 years of creative and technical training experience to the table. From that consolidation, Yoobee emerges as one of New Zealand’s leading Colleges specializing in Creative and Technology education. It holds status within Yoobee Colleges Limited, the largest creative and IT-specialist provider in the country, which enrols around 7,000 learners across its network. Collectively, there are six campuses. To study in Auckland, its flagship site is located near the University of Auckland and core student precincts. Other campuses across the country include Wellington and Christchurch, with additional delivery sites elsewhere to make the creative and tech curriculum accessible nationwide. To study at Yoobee College of Creative Innovation, the Institution delivers programs across Levels 4 through to 9 (Certificate to Master’s), consistent with New Zealand’s qualification framework. Yoobee strongly emphasises practical, project-based learning and mentorship. Its philosophy, the ‘Yoobee Way’, underscores that mastery requires immersive practice, strong tutor relationships, and ongoing industry connections. Small class sizes allow deeper engagement and personalised feedback, supporting students to refine creative identity in an immersive campus culture. From a research and development standpoint, Yoobee’s programs undergo regular external evaluation (via NZQA), and alignment with industry demands ensures that the curriculum remains current. Alumni networks span animation studios, design houses, tech firms, film and media companies, and as such, provide pathways for students to access global creative sectors.

Frequently Asked Questions
YCCI follows a distinctive ‘learn by doing’ teaching philosophy, prioritising practical, hands-on learning experiences over traditional lecture-based delivery. The college maintains small class sizes, and courses are delivered through creative labs, collaborative projects, and industry-led workshops.
Living expenses in Auckland are higher than those in smaller New Zealand cities, primarily due to housing, transport, and general living costs. While exact figures for Yoobee students may vary, the institution advises all international learners to plan their budgets carefully, considering accommodation, daily transport, insurance, food, and leisure costs.
For international students under the age of 18, Yoobee adheres strictly to the New Zealand Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners. Such students must reside in approved homestay accommodation or under the care of a designated caregiver authorised by the institution.
Prospective students are encouraged to review examples of student work from the specific programme they are interested in, particularly for creative fields such as animation, game development, or digital design. It is also recommended to inquire about industry connections, including partnerships, internship opportunities, and graduate placement pathways.
