Western Illinois University was founded in 1899 as the Western Illinois State Normal School, which became the Western Illinois State Teachers College in 1921 and Western Illinois College in 1947. Later, it was changed to Western Illinois University. The university is known for its top-ranked educational programs, accessible approach to education, and abundant growth opportunities.
