Following Swedish regulations, the first instalment of the tuition fee must be paid in full for the entire first semester. To register in the Swedish Population Register and receive a personal identity number (personnummer), students must notify the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) by visiting one of their local service offices after arriving in Sweden. Eligibility for a personal identity number requires that the student holds a residence permit valid for at least 12 months. Once registration is complete, the Swedish Tax Agency will issue the personal number.
