About University of Reading, Reading, England
Founded in 1926, the University of Reading is one of the leading universities in the UK. Before gaining university status, it functioned as an extension college of the University of Oxford in the 19th century. The University of Reading is known for its award-winning campuses: Whiteknights, Greenlands, and London Road. Its main campus in Whiteknights covers 130 hectares of scenic parkland and has won 14 Green Flag Award consecutively. London Road, a historic campus, recently underwent a £30 million upgrade. Greenlands, located by the River Thames, houses one of Europe’s top business schools and modern facilities. Students choose the University of Reading UK for its strong global presence, with a business school in Johannesburg and an overseas campus in Malaysia. It also operates the Thames Valley Science Park, home to 70 high-tech companies, near the Whiteknights campus. The University’s student population is 27,000, of which more than 5000 are international students from 165 different countries. With more than 4,000 academic and professional staff, it is also one of the largest employers in Berkshire. Over the past decade, it has invested more than £500 million in world-class teaching, research, and student facilities. Research focuses on four key areas: Agriculture, Food & Health; Environment; Heritage & Creativity; and Prosperity & Resilience. Approximately 98% of university research is internationally recognized. Esteemed graduates of the University of Reading include British politician Penny Mordaunt, German politician Frauke Petry, Chinese actress Tang Wei, and English comedian and actor Julian Barratt. The success of these alumni, along with its strong career support, is further reflected in its impressive placement rate.
