The University of Massachusetts Lowell traces its roots back to two separate institutions: the Lowell Normal School, established in 1894 for teacher education, and the Lowell Textile School, founded in 1895 to train professionals for the textile sector. Over several decades, both schools broadened their academic programs. In 1975, they merged to create the University of Lowell. This institution later joined the University of Massachusetts system in 1991. Situated just north of Boston, the University of Massachusetts Lowell spans three campuses along the Merrimack River. University Crossing, on the East Campus, serves as the central hub, housing Undergraduate Admissions and Student Services. The North Campus houses programs in Engineering, Science, and Business.
