Established in 1964, UMass Boston holds a unique position among universities in Boston as the city’s only public research university. It is the second institution in the University of Massachusetts system. The university has a diverse and welcoming campus community, with around 2,400 international students representing more than 136 countries. UMass Boston is organised into 9 academic colleges and schools , including the College of Management, Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences, School for the Environment, College of Education and Human Development, College of Liberal Arts, College of Science and Mathematics, the McCormack School of Policy and Global Studies, the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development, and the Honours College. Together, these colleges manage and support more than 40 research centres and institutes focused on real-world challenges. The university is accredited by NECHE and NEASC and also holds academic recognition through the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities and the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.
