Founded in 1877 as the first university in Western Canada, the University of Manitoba is located in Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba. It is the region’s largest and most research-intensive university, playing a key role in advancing innovation and academic excellence. The university has two main campuses—Fort Garry and Bannatyne—along with multiple satellite campuses across the province. It has a student population of over 30,500, with approximately 20% being international students representing 122 countries. Supporting its academic community is a faculty and academic staff of more than 8,400. The University of Manitoba acceptance rate is considered high, allowing students who meet the admission requirements a fair chance of securing a place. It is home to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and is a member of the U15.
