Saint Mary’s College of California was founded in 1863 by Archbishop Joseph Alemany to provide a high-quality education for working class people of the state. Originally built as a grammar school for male students in San Francisco, it was then taken over by De La Salle Christian Brothers, who helped it to grow into California’s largest education centers. Today this Catholic college is recognized for its student-centered dialogue driven liberal arts programs and evolving teaching traditions. Located in the picturesque hills of Moraga Valley just 23 miles east of San Francisco, the main campus is spread across 420 acres.
