Missouri Southern State University was started in 1937 and has provided educational opportunities in Southwest Missouri and beyond. The university has evolved from an excellent junior college to a comprehensive 4-year state-supported university. The university is located in Joplin Mo in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. It is close to some of the greatest scenery and waterways in the nation. The historic Route 66 runs through the city.
