Linnaeus University, Sweden was founded in 2010 through the merger of Växjö University and Kalmar University College. Växjö University began in 1967 as a branch of Lund University and gained full university status in 1999. Kalmar University College, established in 1977, was not classified as a university but was authorized to award doctoral degrees in 1999. Today, Linnaeus University operates from two campuses—Växjö and Kalmar. Växjö offers a strong academic foundation, while Kalmar, set by the Baltic Sea, enhances the university’s diverse learning environment. Linnaeus University offers an inclusive admissions process. The institution is home to over 40,000 students, including more than 15,128 full-time and around 2,000 international learners, creating a vibrant multicultural environment. This academic community is backed by over 2,163 staff, including 150 esteemed professors. Linnaeus' research, recognized nationally and internationally, operates through five dedicated Research Centres. It offers diverse programs across six key fields: Technology and Engineering, Computer Science, Business and Economics, Design, Humanities, and Social and Behavioural Sciences. The university partners with approximately 500 universities across 80+ countries. Each year, over 1600 students join exchange programs. For international experience, students can study abroad, undertake an Erasmus traineeship, or complete a degree project overseas. Linnaeus has produced remarkable alumni who have made their mark worldwide. Notable names include Swedish journalist and filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul, Seychellois politician Rolph Payet, and Ukrainian journalist and filmmaker Andriy Tsaplienko.
