Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) was founded in 1981 following its separation from Douglas College, which was initiated by the government of British Columbia. After the split, KPU assumed control of the campus located south of the Fraser River, which remains one of its primary locations. It was officially designated as a university in 1995 and later recognized as a polytechnic university in 2008. Today, Kwantlen Polytechnic University operates across five campuses in the Metro Vancouver area of British Columbia: Surrey, Richmond, Cloverdale, Langley, and Civic Plaza. Collectively, these campuses comprise over one million square feet of academic and administrative space. The university also offers dedicated Learning Centers at its Surrey, Richmond, and Langley campuses, supporting student success through various academic resources and services. Kwantlen Polytechnic University enrolls approximately 20,000 students, with support from over 1,800 faculty and personnel. Class sizes stay within 35, ensuring focused instruction and active participation.
