About Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh Napier University is a publicly funded institution situated in Edinburgh, Scotland. Its origins trace back to the establishment of Napier Technical College in 1964. The college was granted university status in 1992, at which point it became known as Napier University, an event officiated by Lord James Douglas Hamilton. In 2009, it adopted its current name, Edinburgh Napier University. Edinburgh Napier University operates from three key locations in the city: Merchiston, Craiglockhart, and Sighthill. Each site is well-connected by public transport and brings together a mix of cultures through its active, international student community. More than 20,000 students from 145 different nations study at the university. A total of 1,816 staff members support both academic and professional services across its five academic schools: Applied Sciences, Arts and Creative Industries, the Business School, Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment, and Health and Social Care. It houses over 16 specialized research centres that contribute to advancements across multiple disciplines. It also holds the distinction of being the first UK institution to have both its Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programs recognized by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). Through its enterprise hub, Bright Red Triangle, nearly 700 startups have received guidance and support. Edinburgh Napier University also supports around 450 graduate apprentices in fields such as Computing, Engineering, and Business. Impressively, over 98% of its Postgraduate Programs students and 97% of its Undergraduate Programs students are employed or pursuing further education within 15 months of completing their studies. These outcomes place it among the forward-thinking universities in United Kingdom that combine academic learning with strong industry connections.
