California State University, Northridge (CSUN) began in 1956 as a satellite campus of California State University, Los Angeles, located in the San Fernando Valley. In 1958, it became independent and was renamed San Fernando Valley State College (SFVSC). Later, in 1972, it adopted its present name, California State University, Northridge. As part of the California State University (CSU) system, California State University, Northridge is one of 23 campuses serving around 440,000 students and supported by over 44,000 faculty and staff. The CSU system is the largest and among the most affordable Public University Systems in the United States. It serves as a primary access point for Undergraduate Education in California and functions as a training hub for Teachers, Nurses, Social Workers, and Engineers. The university enrolls approximately 36,368 students, with more than 71% being the first in their families to attend College. It maintains strong academic ties with several prominent high schools in the region, including Granada Hills Charter High School, Birmingham Community Charter High School, John H.
