Adelaide University was officially established by legislation in 2024 as a future-focused institution, combining the strengths of two distinguished predecessors: the University of Adelaide (founded in 1874) and the University of South Australia. With the formal operational launch slated for 1 January 2026, it is set to become one of Australia’s major public research Universities. As a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight (Go8), Adelaide University is immediately positioned among the Nation’s top universities, with aspirations to be ranked in the top 1% worldwide. It’s preliminary already places it at high ranks globally, even before its full operational commencement. The University will operate across seven campuses across South Australia: its Adelaide City Campus (with eastern and western precincts), Magill, Mawson Lakes, Waite, Roseworthy, plus regional campuses at Mount Gambier and Whyalla. Each campus is equipped with modern, discipline-specific facilities, well-resourced libraries, and student amenities such as health services, gyms, eateries, and dedicated study and research spaces. At its inception, Adelaide University is expected to have approximately 70,000 students, making it the fifth largest University in Australia by enrolment. Domestic and international student representation will be strong: about one-in-four students will be from overseas. The student body will draw from more than 90 countries. Students currently enrolled at the University of South Australia or the University of Adelaide will transition to the new Adelaide University in either their existing program or an equivalent program from 2026. During this transition, students will receive comprehensive support, including an individual study plan that outlines recommended enrolments to ensure academic continuity and successful program completion.
For most programs, there is no fixed application closing date for prospective international students. However, it is strongly recommended to submit applications at least three months before the intended program start date. This timeframe allows Adelaide University’s International Admissions team adequate time (generally six to eight weeks) to assess and process the application. Certain programs have set or early application deadlines due to additional requirements or competitive entry processes.
Students who have been awarded a scholarship, grant, or fee discount by the University of Adelaide or the University of South Australia will retain their award under the terms and conditions specified at the time of acceptance. However, current UniSA or University of Adelaide international coursework students will not be eligible to apply for an additional Adelaide University scholarship under their existing arrangement.
A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is an official document required for international students to apply for a student visa. Applicants holding a conditional offer may be eligible to receive a conditional CoE, which enables them to commence the visa application process while awaiting final academic results. Once final results are released, students must submit them via the Online Application System or through their Education Agent promptly to proceed with course enrolment. If academic conditions are not met, the CoE may be cancelled, and any tuition fees paid will be refunded in accordance with the University’s refund policy.

International students may be eligible for credit (also known as Recognition of Prior Learning) if they have: ✅ Successfully completed university-level studies or a VET qualification (Certificate IV or above) ✅ Demonstrated significant and relevant professional work experience Eligibility for credit is assessed once the application for admission has been submitted. Applicants who receive an offer of admission will be informed of their credit outcome. Those who cannot provide sufficient documentation at the time of application may still apply for credit after receiving an offer, with outcomes typically determined within a few days.
